Nomination and Endorsement
Michelle, Wyatt, Halle and I had a great morning on Sunday with my nomination and endorsement as the Republican Party Candidate for Insurance Commissioner! I was honored to have Governor Hoeven nominate me and the energy during our floor demonstration was amazing! Walking up and down the aisles and seeing all of our old AND new friends was a tremendous feeling!
I’d also like to send out a special thank-you to all the College Republicans who helped get our campaign off to such a fantastic start! The excitement they added to the entire convention weekend was contagious! The future of the Republican Party in North Dakota is clearly VERY bright!
Governor’s Club Dinner
The convention excitement kicked off Friday evening with the Governor’s Club Dinner and special guest speaker Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty. I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to be the Master of Ceremonies at the event (if you would like to read about it, it is discussed in the Saturday edition (March 29, 2008) of the Fargo Forum).
Michelle and I had a great evening sitting with Governor Hoeven and his family, and Governor Pawlenty. Governor Pawlenty inspired the hundreds in attendance with his speech and kick-started the convention perfectly!
Convention Excitement
The Republican State Convention is just around the corner and final plans and preparations are coming together! I am really excited about the opportunity to meet all the delegates and speak to them about the positive message of this campaign. I hope to see you there!
Campaign Announcement Tour
We officially launched the campaign for Insurance Commissioner on February 13 and 14 with stops across North Dakota! Michelle, Wyatt and Halle joined me as we traveled to Bismarck, Fargo, Grand Forks and Minot.
The reception we received was outstanding and I am very honored to have had the following people introduce me: Governor Hoeven in Bismarck, former Fargo Mayor Bruce Furness in Fargo, Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem in Grand Forks and First Lady Mikey Hoeven in Minot! We are really looking forward to getting out and meeting North Dakotans and letting them know about our positive message! Here we go!!!
Consumer Protection
As Insurance Commissioner, I am committed to consumer protection as job one. I’ve seen first-hand the impressive results that the trained investigators at the Insurance Department are able to achieve for North Dakota’s consumers, and I will continue to work hard to ensure that North Dakotans have the protection and advocacy they deserve. Building on the Department’s Success
I am committed to building on the success of the Insurance Department, particularly in the areas of assistance provided to North Dakotans with the State Health Insurance Counseling program and Prescription Connection for North Dakota. Read more
Healthcare
I am committed to taking a leadership role on health care. As we all know, costs are rising and our aging population is expanding. I will work hard to see appropriate reimbursements across the board, including lobbying Congress to that end; I’ll work to ensure good quality healthcare across all of North Dakota; to encourage competition; and to promote personal wellness. After carefully studying the issues and problems at Workforce Safety and Insurance (”WSI”), I put forth a detailed proposal on February 4, 2008, that would allow the Insurance Department to play a specialized and necessary role in bringing long term accountability to WSI. Read more
